Consultant Field Engineer – READY Project (2 positions)

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is recruiting two Field Engineer consultants to support the READY project in the Republic of the Marshall Islands. The role involves planning, designing, and overseeing upgrades to emergency evacuation centres and the establishment of containerised emergency warehouses.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct technical and feasibility assessments of buildings and infrastructure to identify priority works for disaster‑risk‑management upgrades.
• Prepare and review engineering documentation, including designs, drawings, bills of quantities, technical specifications, cost estimates and implementation schedules.
• Provide technical oversight during construction, ensuring compliance with approved designs, quality standards, schedules and budgets.
• Coordinate with government counterparts, contractors, community working groups and other stakeholders to ensure smooth project implementation.
• Conduct site inspections, identify technical issues, and recommend corrective actions.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in civil engineering, architecture or related field with at least two years of relevant experience, or a university degree with four years of experience.
• Licensed professional engineer certification.
• Experience in construction engineering, contract management and working in remote or hardship locations.
• Excellent English language skills.
• Ability to travel by boat and work in isolated settings for periods of 2‑4 weeks.

Required skills

• AutoCAD (design and visualization software).
• Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel).
• Knowledge of applicable codes, policies, standards and best practices for construction projects.
